FC Cincinnati 0, New England Revolution 2 | 2019 MLS Match Recap

The New England Revolution just keep on trucking under Bruce Arena.

The Revs downed FC Cincinnati 2-0 on a broiling Sunday afternoon at Nippert Stadium, comfortably dispatching the expansion side via goals from Carles Gil and Tony Delamea to run their record under their new coach to 5-0-2 in MLS action.

Gil stroked home a loose ball deep inside the FCC penalty box in the early stages to hand the Revolution an early advantage, and then served up a pinpoint cross to an unmarked Delamea for the second goal.

New England remain undefeated since parting ways with former head coach Brad Friedel, amassing a 6-0-4 combined mark under Arena and interim boss Mike Lapper. Gil's influence in that run has been enormous; the Spanish playmaker has now netted seven goals and eight assists in league play.

Three Things

  • THE BIG PICTURE: Nothing seems to be going right for slumping Cincy, while the Revs can suddenly do no wrong. A dose of organization and spirit has done wonders for a team that lost by the same scoreline in the first meeting between these sides, at Gillette Stadium back in March.
  • MOMENT OF THE MATCH: Who says short corners don't work? The Revs put Cincinnati right to sleep with one to ice this victory...
  • MAN OF THE MATCH: Carles Gil is the clear choice, and looks more and more like the chief snub of the MLS All-Star roster with every Revs match.
