Own goals are a part of life in soccer, but two own goals in a matter of minutes? Not something you see everyday, but it happened in MLS action on Saturday.
After a weather delay postponing kickoff for one hour and 47 minutes, FC Dallas and Seattle Sounders kicked off at Toyota Stadium. The teams were scoreless until the 35th minute, when Sounders defender Xavier Arreaga, a recent addition to the squad making his first career MLS start, turned the ball into the net.
But that wasn't all. Five minutes later, the Sounders had a second own goal, as Brad Smith turned the ball in his own net off a free kick.
MLS Communications confirmed during the Dallas broadcast that two own goals in the same game has happened 14 times total in MLS history including Saturday's game, while the same team scoring two own goals has happened just five times in league history.
Seattle still have time to get back into the game, but two successive own goals look to be setting FC Dallas up for a favorable night.
