ForwardChivas USA picked forward Victor Estupiñán with the 14th overall selection in the 2011 MLS SuperDraft in Baltimore after making a trade with Real Salt Lake in order to acquire the pick. He was the second first-round pick for the Red-and-White in the 2011 SuperDraft, having already selected defender Zarek Valentin with the 4th overall selection. A native of Quito, Ecuador, Estupiñán was one of several international players included alongside domestic players in the SuperDraft for the first time.
A forward from the youth system of LDU Quito in Ecuador, Victor Estupiñán impressed coaches at the MLS Combine in Florida ahead of the draft, and comes to MLS after a season in which he led the Ecuadorian reserve league in scoring. He was also a part of the squad that helped LDU Quito to the national championship and a RecopaSudamericana championship.
