Career Summary

Stern John’s MLS career may have only lasted two years, but he will be remembered as one of the most prolific goal scorers to ever play in the league.

The Trinidadian forward spent the 1998 and 1999 seasons as a member of the Columbus Crew and gave opponents a near-impossible task trying to stop him.

In 1998, John was crowned the MLS scoring champion by leading the league in both goals (26) and points (57), and was named to the MLS’s Best XI.

John followed up his tremendous 1998 season with an impressive 1999 campaign as well. He found the back of the net 18 times in what would be his second, and final, season in Major League Soccer. He finished his tenure in the United States with 44 goals in just 55 appearances.

OTHER:

After his time in MLS, John moved on to have a successful career in England. He spent time with Nottingham Forest, Birmingham City, and Coventry City among others.

John is one of the most storied players in Trinidad and Tobago’s history. In his 14 year international career, he made 109 appearances for the Soca Warriors. His 69 goals ranks him first all-time in T&T history, and he is second in total caps. He was named the Trinidad and Tobago Player of the Year in 2002.
