Michael Harrington

Option declined following 2017 season.

A longtime MLS veteran, Harrington made 19 appearances for the Fire in 2016. After spending the first six years of his career in Kansas City, Harrington headed west to Portland in 2013, playing a couple of seasons with the Timbers before spending 2015 in Colorado. Now 31, he’s not as mobile as he once was, but Harrington should provide a steady hand at outside back and serve as a solid mentor to the Fire’s large crop of young defenders.

INTERNATIONAL: Harrington had plenty of experience as a US youth international, spending time at the U-17 residency program in Bradenton, Florida, playing at the 2005 U-20 World Cup and earning a spot as an alternate for the 2008 Olympic team. He was called to the USMNT’s January camp in 2014, but did not appear in a match.

COLLEGE: Registered four goals and 14 assists in four years at the University of North Carolina. Was named to the preseason Hermann Trophy watch list prior to his senior season in 2006, and made the All-ACC first-team that same year.
