MLS is Back: 10 biggest newcomers in 2025
Quietly but relentlessly, MLS keeps growing its profile on the international transfer market, with steadily growing sums of spending both inbound and outgoing from window to window.
PRIOR TO NEW YORK
Choupo-Moting spent the four seasons prior to joining New York with Bayern Munich, where he made 122 appearances and scored 38 goals. In his time with Bayern, he won three Bundesliga titles, one German Super Cup, and one FIFA Club World Cup.
The forward was also with Paris Saint-Germain in Ligue 1, where he made 51 appearances and scored nine goals. He won two Ligue 1 Championships and a French Cup in his time at the club. Choupo-Moting also had stints with Stoke City FC, FC Shalke 04, and 1.FSV Mainz 05. When he was with Mainz, he helped the club finish seventh in the Bundesliga and qualify for the UEFA Europa League. In his stints with all three clubs, he made 214 appearances and scored 49 goals and tallied 30 assists. He began his professional career with Hamburger SV, where he also played his youth soccer.
INTERNATIONAL EXPERIENCE
He represented Cameroon at the senior National Team level, where he has made 73 appearances and scored 20 goals, while tallying four assists. He made his debut with Cameroon on May 11, 2010, and he also helped his country qualify for the 2010, 2014, and 2022 FIFA World Cups, while participating in all of them. He scored his first career FIFA World Cup goal in a 3-3 draw against Serbia in the 2022 FIFA World Cup. The forward also featured for Germany Youth National Teams, where he made 19 appearances and scored nine goals.

The New York Red Bulls have signed Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting as a Designated Player on a two-year MLS contract through 2026 with an option for 2027 pending receipt of his P-1 visa and ITC on December 18, 2024.
