Edgaras Jankauskas

A tall, powerful striker who is good in the air … provides the Revolution with a proven attack option … has significant experience at the highest levels of European soccer … officially added to the Revolution’s 20-man senior roster on July 2, one day after signing, after receiving his P-1 Visa ... very adept at playing with his back to goal, but is just as comfortable taking on defenders ... has good foot skills and impressive vision for a target forward.

2009: After signing midseason, made 10 regular-season appearances - including eight starts - and recorded two goals and one assist in his first MLS season. Also made starts in both of the Revolution’s MLS Cup Playoff matches, as well as an appearance in SuperLiga. Missed seven games because of injuries (right hamstring strain, left adductor strain, right adductor strain) and one because of a red-card suspension. Made his MLS debut in the 1-0 loss to the LA Galaxy (July 4), playing 29 minutes as a second-half substitute just three days after being signed. After missing two games with a hamstring strain, returned against Toronto (Aug. 1) and scored his first MLS goal in the 76th minute. Assisted on Shalrie Joseph’s game-winning goal in the 21st minute of the 1-0 win over Seattle (Aug. 20). After missing two more games, returned to the starting lineup against Kansas City (Sept. 5) and scored on a stunning long-range volley, earning goal of the week honors for Week 25 and finishing third in voting for 2009 MLS Goal of the Year. Shown a straight red card in the 70th minute of the 2-0 loss to Chivas USA (Sept. 13) and was suspended for the 1-1 draw with New York (Sept. 18). Missed three matches (Sept. 30 – Oct. 10) with a right adductor strain, and returned to play the full 90 minutes in both the 0-0 draw with Chicago (Oct. 17) and the playoff-clinching, 1-0 win over Columbus (Oct. 25). Made his only SuperLiga appearance in the semifinal loss to Chicago (July 15), playing the full 90 minutes and scoring the Revolution’s only goal in the 2-1 setback – his first as a member of the Revolution. Scored his first goal for New England in his first start for the club, finishing on a deflected volley in the 44th minute. Started at forward in both matches of the Eastern Conference Semifinal Series against Chicago. Left the game in the 52nd minute with an illness, but recovered to play the full 90 minutes in Game 2 one week later.

BEFORE MLS: Began his professional career with Lithuanian side Zalgiris Vilnius and scored 41 goals in 93 appearances for the club before moving on to such prestigious teams as CSKA Moscow (Russia), Club Brugges (Belgium), Real Sociedad (Spain), FC Porto (Portugal), Hearts of Midlothian (Scotland) and Skonto (Latvia) ... was a member of the FC Porto team – coached by world famous manager Jose Mourinho – that won the UEFA Cup in 2002-03 and the UEFA Champions League in 2003-04 ... his transfer fee from Brugges to Real Sociedad (2.3 million €) in 2000 established a new record for the transfer of a Lithuanian player.

INTERNATIONAL: Arguably the most famous player in Lithuanian history, Jankauskas has made 54 appearances for the Lithuania National Team since debuting for his country in 1991 at the age of 16 ... has scored 10 goals while representing his country on the international stage ... is a five-time footballer of the year in Lithuania (1997, 1998, 2000, 2001, 2004).

PERSONAL: Was born in the former Soviet Union on March 12, 1975, and was 15 years old when Lithuania declared its independence.
