Charlotte FC announced the signing of French midfielder Djibril Diani on Feb. 13, 2024 from Ligue 2 side SM Cean.
In his first season with The Crown, Diani made 31 total appearances, making 23 starts, and added one goal and two assists. The Frenchman made his debut in the starting lineup against Nashville SC on March 16, where he went the full 90. Diani scored his lone goal on the season when he converted a penalty kick against reigning Supporters’ Shield winners, FC Cincinnati on March 30.
With SM Cean, Diani featured in 50 contests since he joined in 2022. Prior to the Ligue 2 side, Diani featured for Swiss club Grasshopper Club Zurich, where he made 71 appearances. The midfielder came through the Academy systems of Scottish Premiership club Livingston FC and RC Lens of the French topflight. Diani also made three appearances with France’s U-16 team.
2024 (Charlotte FC): MLS Regular Season – Appeared in 25 matches, making 19 starts, totaling 1,7860 minutes. Scored one goal and added two assists on the season. Made his debut with the Club on March 16 against Nashville SC. MLS Cup Playoffs – Appeared in all three of CLTFC’s matches against Orlando City SC, starting in two.
