San Diego FC acquire Christopher McVey from DC United
TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Trade - SD receive: Christopher McVey - DC receive: Up to $100k GAM San Diego FC have acquired defender Christopher McVey from D.C. United, the club announced Wednesday.
Christopher McVey joined Inter Miami ahead of the 2022 MLS season to bolster the team’s defensive options. The American-Swedish centerback, who can also be deployed as a fullback, went on to become a mainstay in the team’s lineups throughout the 2022 campaign, starting for Inter Miami in all 34 regular season matches and its Audi 2022 MLS Cup Playoffs fixture, recording a goal and an assist as well.Â
Prior to signing for Inter Miami, McVey spent the entirety of his career in Sweden, turning out for several categories of IF Elfsborg’s youth ranks since joining the club’s academy in 2009 at the age of 12, including making five UEFA Youth League appearances for the team’s U-19 side, before going on to make his debut for the first team in a Allsvenskan, the Swedish top tier, match in October 2017. The Sparsör, Sweden native of American descent made a total of 42 appearances across all competitions for Elfsborg between 2017 and 2021, gaining valuable experience by playing five UEFA Conference League qualifying matches in the 2021-2022 campaign, netting once and dishing out an assist in the process. On the international front, McVey has represented the U-17 and U-18 sides of the Swedish National Team.
