Célio Pompeu

Prior to his first professional season with St Louis CITY2, Pompeu played college soccer at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), featuring in all 63 matches available throughout his three-year tenure. 

For CITY2, Pompeu made 24 appearances (20 starts) in the 2022 MLS NEXT Pro regular season, scoring five goals and providing five assists. The Fortaleza, Brazil native had the most successful dribbles (49) and the second most key passes (46) in the entire league. 

In his first MLS NEXT Pro start, Pompeu recorded a goal and an assist in a 4-3 victory over Tacoma Defiance on April 10 at Hermann Stadium. The Virginia Commonwealth University product played a pivotal role in the team’s postseason run, which saw the club claim the MLS NEXT Pro Western Conference Championship. Pompeu tallied three goal contributions (two goals, one assist) in three playoff games.
