MLS EXPERIENCE

2013: In his first season with United, Townsend played in nine games (three starts) and registered four shots with one on goal. Townsend also spent time with United's USL PRO affiliate the Richmond Kickers where he notched two goals in four games, one of which was a game-winner. Known for his ability to win balls in the air, the striker was acquired from Chivas USA on 1/25.

2012: Casey Townsend joined Chivas USA after the Red-and-White took the University of Maryland product with the fifth overall selection of the 2012 MLS SuperDraft on 1/12/12. In his rookie season, Townsend featured in 17 games (10 starts) notching one goal and tallying 2 assists.

COLLEGE EXPERIENCE

2011: As a senior captain, Townsend became one of the nation’s top goal-scorers with 17 goals. He was named a Soccer News Second Team Preseason All-American, NSCAA Second Team All-American, was a MAC Hermann Trophy semifinalist, and was named to the first team All-ACC for the second straight year. Townsend recorded College Soccer News and TopDrawerSoccer.com National Player of the Week honors after a hat trick versus West Virginia in the NCAA tournament. He was also tabbed to TopDrawerSoccer.com's National Team of the Week, named NSCAA and Soccer America National Player of the Week after marquee wins over Charlotte and Creighton, and scored four game-winning goals on the year.

2010: In his junior year, Townsend was named a First Team All-ACC, selected to TopDrawerSoccer.com’s Team of the Season (Honorable Mention) and ACC Championship All-Tournament Team, starting in all 23 games that year. Townsend finished the year with nine goals, a career high five assists, and tallied a career-high 83 shots on the year.

2009v Townsend missed seven games his sophomore season due to a leg injury, but hit his stride when his team needed him most, notably during the NCAA Tournament. Prior to injuring his leg at N.C. State, Townsend picked up his first career hat trick at Maryland against Duquesne. Townsend ended the year with six goals, the second-most on the team and also tallied one assist.

2008: Townsend was named to the All-ACC Freshman Team and ACC All-Tournament Team, tallying 11 goals and four assists, for 26 points on the year. He led his team in shots (75), was second on the squad with five game-winning goals, scored his first collegiate goal against Hartford and registered his first multi-goal game with two goals in a 4-1 win over Davidson. Townsend started in all 26 games as a rookie and helped Maryland win the 2008 NCAA Men’s Soccer National Championship.
