Andy Dorman

How Acquired: Signed by the Revolution on November 15, 2012.

In 2013, returned to the Revolution after beginning his professional career in Foxborough in 2004 … originally drafted by the Revolution in the sixth round (56th overall) in the 2004 MLS SuperDraft, he played four seasons with the Revs before going abroad at the conclusion of his initial MLS contract … a former teammate of head coach Jay Heaps for four years (2004-07), Dorman gained five seasons of European experience before the 2013 season … a versatile midfielder, Dorman is most comfortable as a box-to-box midfielder, but can also play in an attacking position or as a wide midfielder … has an exemplary work rate … enters the 2014 season ranked in top 10 of several of the club’s career records: games played (ninth, 124), goals (tied for 10th, 17), assists (tied for ninth, 19), shots (10th, 140), shots on goal (ninth, 76), corner kicks (sixth, 108), game-winning assists (tied for sixth, 6)… provides veteran leadership and presence for the Revolution.

SINCE MLS: Signed with St. Mirren of the Scottish Premier League following the 2007 MLS season and made his debut on Jan. 19, 2008, recording an assist in his SPL debut against Motherwell. Upon his arrival, Dorman scored three goals and added three assists in 18 appearances through the end of the 2007-08 season. Dorman emerged as one of St. Mirren’s top players in the 2008-09 season, making 36 appearances while scoring 10 goals and adding four assists and garnering interest from English Premier League clubs. After St. Mirren exercised their contract option for the 2009-10 season, replied by scoring six goals and adding eight assists in 34 appearances. Moved to English Championship side Crystal Palace ahead of the 2010-11 season, making his Championship debut in a 3-2 win against Leichester City on Aug. 7, 2010. Scored one goal and added one assist in 21 appearances spanning 15 months, before moving to League Two’s Bristol Rovers on loan in November 2011. After his loan to Bristol Rovers was extended through the end of the 2011-12 season, he scored two goals and added one assist in 25 appearances for the club before his contract with Crystal Palace came up in August 2012.

2007: Appeared in all 30 regular-season games, starting 27. All of his starts came at right midfield. Scored seven goals to tie for the second-highest total on the team. Added two assists as all of his scoring came in the first half of the season. Scored two game-winning goals: vs. Toronto (June 23) and at New York (July 14). His goal against Toronto was his first of the game as he later added a second goal in the 81st minute. Also added single goals against Toronto (April 14), at Columbus (April 19), at D.C. (May 3) and vs. Chivas USA (July 7). Picked up single assists at LA (May 12) on Adam Cristman’s 47th-minute goal, and against Columbus (June 16) on Pat Noonan’s 17th-minute goal. Started and played 90 minutes in the team’s 3-2 win at Dallas (Oct. 3) to help capture the 2007 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, the team’s first-ever cup championship. Started all four games and played all but 33 minutes in the team’s run to capture the U.S. Open Cup. Made one appearance in the MLS Cup Playoffs, coming into the game in the 80th minute of MLS Cup 2007 (Nov. 18) against Houston. At the conclusion of the season, signed a contract with Scottish Premier League outfit St. Mirren on a free transfer.

2006: Started all 32 regular-season games, one of six MLS players in MLS to start all 32 matches. Scored six goals and added a team-leading 10 assists. His 10 assists were tied for the third-highest total in MLS. Played every midfield position throughout the year. Played a career-high 2,834 minutes to rank sixth in MLS. Was also ranked fifth in the league in shots on goal (33). Had three game-tying goals: vs. Chivas USA (May 13), at Chicago (June 11) and vs. D.C. (June 17). Set up Clint Dempsey’s game-winning goal at LA (April 1) in the season opener in a rematch of MLS Cup 2005. Assisted on Steve Ralston’s 93+-minute goal at Chicago (June 11), before tallying the equalizer one minute later in the 94+ minute in the 3-3 draw in the first-ever game at the Fire’s Toyota Park. The goal at Chicago kicked off a three-game goal-scoring streak that included the game-tying goal at D.C. (June 17) and the team’s only goal at Columbus (June 21). Had a pair of two-assist games: at Colorado (July 4) and at D.C. (Oct. 7). Started all four of the Revs’ MLS Cup Playoff matches, and assisted on Taylor Twellman’s goal against Chicago in the second game of the Eastern Conference Semifinal. Voted the Midnight Riders’ Man of the Year. Soccer America named Dorman the third-best attacking midfielder in MLS for the 2006 season.

2005: Appeared in 30 matches, starting 19, mostly as a central midfielder in the team’s five-man midfield. Recorded two goals and added five assists to tie for fifth on the team. Scored his first goal of the season in his first appearance of the year, converting a pass from Taylor Twellman in the 85th minute against Columbus (April 9), three minutes after coming into the game. Scored the game-tying goal in the fourth minute of stoppage time at LA (July 4), securing a road point for the Revs. Had two game-winning assists: on Shalrie Joseph’s 80th minute goal at Dallas (Aug. 13) and on Taylor Twellman’s 94+-minute goal against D.C. United (Aug. 27). Made one postseason appearance, coming on as a stoppage-time substitute and playing all of extra time, in MLS Cup 2005 (Nov. 11) against LA in Dallas.

2004: Made 20 regular-season appearances, including two starts. Played mainly in the central midfield as a consistent “super sub,” especially late in the season when 14 of his 20 appearances came in the last 16 games. Finished seventh on the team in scoring (two goals, one assist) despite playing just 365 minutes. Made his MLS debut as a substitute on April 17 against San Jose, coming on in the 89th minute. Made his first-career MLS start at Dallas (June 12). Recorded his first professional goal and assist in the same game – at Dallas (Aug. 11) – when he assisted on Taylor Twellman’s 86th minute goal and then scored the team’s third goal in a 3-0 win in the 94+ minute. Scored his second goal of the year in the next game – at D.C. – an 85th-minute, game-tying strike. Also added three substitute appearances in the MLS Cup Playoffs, appearing in all three of the team’s matches, while assisting on Twellman’s goal in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Semifinal Series against Columbus (Oct. 31).

Wales National Team: Has three caps with Wales … made his Welsh debut on May 23, 2010 in a 2-0 loss at Croatia … his two other caps came in the 2011 Carling Nations Cup against Scotland (3-1 loss, May 25, 2011) and against Northern Ireland (2-0 win, May 27, 2011).

College: Was a four-year player at Boston University (2000-03) … was a three-time All-New England and three-time all-conference honoree … left the program holding the career assist record (37), and ranked fourth nationally as a senior (0.71 assists per game) … his 13 assists as a junior were the team’s second-highest single-season mark … concluded his collegiate career ranked seventh in school history in overall scoring with 81 points (22 goals, 37 assists).

Personal:  Married his college sweetheart, Nicole, in June 2009  … son of Lynne and Dennis Dorman … attended Boston University’s College of the Arts and Sciences, majoring in human geography … his younger brother Richy plays football in Finland … favorite sports team is Liverpool FC and his favorite player is Liverpool’s Steven Gerrard … enjoys playing cricket and golf … favorite TV shows include Extras, The Office, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Seinfeld and anything starring Ricky Gervais or Larry David.
