Adam Cristman

Acquired by Los Angeles: From D.C. United in exchange in exchange for a first round pick in the 2011 MLS Supplemental Draft on January 11, 2011.

An MLS veteran and former Rookie of the Year finalist, Adam Cristman is in his first season with the Galaxy after being acquired from D.C. United in a trade in January. The 26-year-old Virginia native began his career in New England in 2007, helping the club reach MLS Cup as a rookie that season. Strong in the air and good at holding the ball up, Cristman scored 10 goals in his two years with the Revolution, including a career-high six goals in 2008. He was traded to Kansas City before the 2009 season, and then to D.C. United in 2010, but missed much of that time through injury, scoring just twice in 2010.

MLS Highlights

• 2010: Joined D.C. United in February in a trade with Kansas City and went on to play in 17 games, scoring twice and adding an assist. He scored the first goal of his United career on 5/29 in a 3-2 win vs. Chivas USA for his first goal in nearly two years. He added his second goal of the season two weeks later on 6/10, tallying the eventual game-winner in a 3-2 win at Seattle. He made his United debut as a second half substitute on 4/10 at Philadelphia and then recorded his first assist of the season in his second start, setting up Danny Allsopp’s game-winning goal in a 2-1 home win over Kansas City on 5/5. However, he missed the final two months of the season through injury.
• 2009: Was traded to Kansas City from New England in November 2008, but was limited to just 213 minute in five games with the Wizards. His season was cut short when he suffered a fractured metatarsal that eventually required surgery.
• 2008: Scored a career-high six goals, adding an assist for the Revolution. Two of his six goals came in New England’s 2-1 win at LA on 7/4. That was the second multi-goal game of his MLS career, and his first on the road. He also added goals against Houston, D.C. United, FC Dallas and Real Salt Lake, with the Revs going 3-1-1 when he scored. His six goals were the third most on the team, while his 16 starts were a career-high. He recorded an assist in the 2-1 win vs. D.C. United on 8/20, but soon suffered an injury that ruled him out for the rest of the season, only after helping New England become the first MLS team to win SuperLiga.
• 2007: A finalist for the MLS Gatorade Rookie of the Year award, Cristman played in a career-high 28 games, scoring four times and adding four assists. After being selected by New England in the fourth round of the 2007 MLS SuperDraft, he made his MLS debut on 4/7 in a 1-0 loss at Chicago and scored his first career goal just over a month later in a 3- 2 win at LA on 5/12. That goal tied the score at 1-1 early in the second half. Cristman added a pair of first half goals in a 3-3 draw with Columbus on 6/16 while also scoring just minutes after coming on in a 2-0 home win over Kansas City on 8/2. His four goals and four assists were each tied for second amongst rookies that season. New England was 3-0-1 when he had an assist that season as they reached MLS Cup for the third straight season. He played three of the Revolution’s four postseason games that year, only missing the MLS Cup defeat to Houston.

College Highlights

Played four years at the University of Virginia, helping lead the Cavaliers to at least the third round of the NCAA Tournament in each of his four years with the program, including a berth in the College Cup Semifinals as a senior in 2006. He finished his college career with 34 goals and 15 assists in 85 games, starting all but six of those. He led Virginia in goals as a freshman and sophomore before finishing second on the club in his junior and senior seasons. As a senior, he scored a career-high 10 goals as the Cavaliers reached the College Cup Semifinals before being upset by UCLA. The Virginia native was a two-time All-ACC selection as well as an NSCAA All-South Atlantic honoree in both 2005 and 2006.

Cristman has represented the United States at the U-18 and U-23 level, but he is yet to make his full international debut.
