New York Red Bulls hire former RB Leipzig analyst as Head of Scouting

The New York Red Bulls added to their technical staff on Thursday, when they announced that they’ve hired Benjamin Ehresmann as Head of Scouting.

Ehresmann comes to New York from sister club RB Leipzig, where he most recently served as the Head Video Analyst for Scouting as the club was promoted through Germany’s lower leagues to the Bundesliga.

“We are pleased to add Benjamin to our club,” Red Bulls sporting director Denis Hamlett said in a statement released by the club. “He has a great track record of identifying young, talented players, which fits into our club philosophy. We look forward to getting him up to speed to strengthen our scouting network.”

A former professional midfielder, Ehresmann began working with Leipzig in 2009 as a youth coach before eventually moving into his analyst role in 2013. He scouted worldwide for Leipzig, and helped identify many of the first-team players for the side that finished second in the Bundesliga last season and will take part in the upcoming UEFA Champions League.

“I am extremely happy to be here,” said Ehresmann. “I would like to use my many years of experience to contribute to the success of the New York Red Bulls. As the head of scouting, I have the task to build up a professional scouting department and to work together very close with Denis Hamlett, [head coach] Jesse Marsch and the coaching staff, and also [academy director] David Longwell to find the best and most talented players.”

The Red Bulls will return to action on Saturday against the Chicago Fire at Toyota Park (4 pm ET; UniMas, Facebook.com, MLS LIVE).
