The hill is steep, but the Colorado Rapids are still climbing in search of an Audi 2019 MLS Cup Playoff berth and need a win Sunday against an FC Dallas side sitting just above the playoff line.
The Rapids (11-15-6) are six points behind FC Dallas with two games to play, but remain alive after rallying from a two-goal deficit to defeat Sporting Kansas City for their fourth win in the last five games. A tally from Gerso and an own goal by Tommy Smith put Sporting in front 2-0 after 14 minutes. But, after Matt Besler was sent off for his second bookable offense six minutes later, Kei Kamara and Diego Rubio leveled the score before Smith latched onto a Jack Price corner kick for what proved to be the winner five minutes from full time.
FC Dallas (12-11-9) rallied from a deficit inside the opening minute to secure a 1-1 draw with NYCFC last Sunday at Toyota Stadium. Zdenek Ondrasek leveled for FC Dallas in the 66th minute after Taty Castellanos struck in the 1st minute. It was FC Dallas' second consecutive draw.
In the first matchup March 23 at Toyota Stadium, Ryan Hollingshead scored the 82nd-minute winner after Smith canceled out Michael Barrios' early goal.
