TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Signing
The Colorado Rapids have signed US Under-17 national team forward Dantouma “Yaya” Toure to a Homegrown player contract after acquiring his Homegrown rights from the New York Red Bulls, it was announced Thursday.
Colorado sent $50,000 in General Allocation Money (GAM) to the Red Bulls, who could receive additional allocation money if certain performance metrics are met. RBNY could also receive a sell-on fee if Toure is transferred to a team outside of MLS.
“Yaya is an exciting talent who has already shown tremendous potential through his performances in the USL Championship as a 16-year-old,” Padraig Smith, Colorado’s executive VP & general manager, said in a release. “He’s powerful and explosive on the ball and has an ability to take on defenders that allows him to be a difference-maker. We believe he has all the qualities necessary to develop into an elite player and are excited to see what the future holds for him."
Toure, 16, spent 2020 with New York Red Bulls II in the USL Championship. He scored three goals and added three assists in 13 appearances, getting professional experience after coming through RBNY’s academy.
In February 2020, Toure was part of the US Under-17 squad for the UEFA Development Tournament in England. He’s their fourth homegrown signing in two days after defender Michael Edwards, forward Darren Yapi and midfielder Oliver Larraz all joined on various deals.
