Andy Loughnane: Austin FC have 10,000 on season ticket waitlist, largest in league history

As buzz around their upcoming MLS debut continues to grow, Austin FC have checked a noteworthy milestone off the list.

According to club president Andy Loughnane, Austin have already placed 10,000 fans on a season ticket waitlist and are progressing toward 11,000, which would be a historic number.

“As best we understand with the information made available, this is the largest paid waitlist in league history,” Loughnane told Phil West on the expansion club's official website. “It speaks highly of Austin as a market that is ready for major league sports, and it continues to highlight how highly in-demand Austin FC tickets remain.”

Austin already sold out of season ticket memberships, but a $50 deposit allows fans to become part of the Oak Collective, the club's group of season ticket membership and waitlist membership fans. Oak Collective members can purchase up to six season tickets if, or when, they become available, and all waitlist members can purchase single-game tickets for up to six matches during a season before they go on sale to the general public.

Season tickets for Austin FC matches have proven to be a hot commodity, as there were more than 30,000 deposits made within 24 hours of them going on sale in 2019. That was a record-breaking number, with ample demand even causing their website to crash.

As interest around Austin FC remains at fever-pitch levels, they'll soon become the Texas city's first major league sports team and open Q2 Stadium. Earlier this month, Loughnane told MLSsoccer.com that they're planning for a June 2021 Q2 Stadium opener.
