A report out of Argentina suggests former Argentina international Gabriel Batistuta is coming to the United States to begin his coaching career.
Per the Ole report, Batistuta is in negotiations with a club in the United States for a coaching position, but the club is not named in the report. All 27 MLS teams have coaches ahead of the rapidly approaching 2021 season, so it currently seems unlikely that he will be introduced as an MLS head coach any time in the near future.
Three clubs will join MLS in the next two years — Charlotte FC, St. Louis City SC and the Sacramento Republic.
The report add that Batistuta took a UEFA coaching course in 2018 and in the past had received offers to coach elsewhere, which he declined. He also previously expressed interest in coaching in the United States.
Batistuta enjoyed a hugely successful career as a player for club and country, making his professional debut in 1988 with Newell's Old Boys before becoming a legend with Italia club Fiorentina and later winning the Serie A title with AS Roma in the 2000-01 season, He retired in Qatar with Al-Arabi in 2005.
He was capped 77 times by Argentina, and won the Copa America in 1991 and 1993, and was the country's top international scorer with 54 goals before Lionel Messi broke his record.
