The Houston Dynamo have scouted Tigres UANL and Mexico international center back Carlos Salcedo, though have not made an offer for the player, a source tells MLSsoccer.com.
ESPN Mexico first reported the Dynamo's interest.
Salcedo is in his prime and in great form, meaning he wouldn't be cheap should Houston decide to pursue him. Tigres signed him for a reported cost around $10 million two years ago and he's been an instant success for the North American superclub.
The 27-year-old began his career with Real Salt Lake before moving to Chivas in 2014. He then went to Europe where he played in Serie A with Fiorentina and the Bundesliga with Eintracht Frankfurt before returning to Mexico with Tigres two years ago. With Tigres, he has already amassed 70 appearances and is currently at the Club World Cup with the reigning Concacaf Champions League winners.
Salcedo has 35 caps with the Mexican national team.
Houston have undergone a defensive makeover this winter, primarily with domestic-based additions. The club traded Kiki Struna to CF Montreal and then acquired Tim Parker from the New York Red Bulls. They also used the No. 6 overall pick at the SuperDraft to select center back Ethan Bartlow.
The Dynamo struggled defensively in 2020, conceding 40 goals in 21 matches. Only five clubs conceded more.
