US men’s national team defender and FC Dallas academy product Chris Richards will get additional opportunities for Bundesliga minutes, heading to TSG 1899 Hoffenheim in a loan deal from Bayern Munich, it was announced Monday.
The loan is for the remainder of the Bundesliga season.
The 20-year-old has made three appearances for Bayern this season, picking up his first Bundesliga assist in his first start in a 4-3 win over Hertha BSC in October. He last stepped on the field in a brief substitute appearance against RB Leipzig Dec. 5.
Richards, who signed with Bayern Munich from Dallas in January 2019, previously competed for Bayern’s U-19 side and FC Bayern Munich II. He made his Bundesliga debut in a 3-1 win over Freiburg on June 20, 2020.
A former U-20 standout, Richards made his USMNT debut in an international friendly against Panama in November.
Hoffenheim, which have a glut of defensive injuries, are currently 12th in the Bundesliga table, 10 points shy of the final European qualification spot.
