Sergio Ruiz will be suiting up for Charlotte FC when the expansion side takes the field in 2022, but for now he's plying his trade in his native Spain, and he gave fans a taste of what he brings to the table in his match for UD Las Palmas on Tuesday.
The 25-year-old scored his team's lone goal in a 1-1 draw against Girona, making a clever run into the box and hitting home a cross with a well-taken first-time finish just as the contest was set to hit halftime. Watch it below.
It was Ruiz's first goal for UD Las Palmas, which plays in Spain's second division.
Ruiz was loaned to the club in September by Charlotte, which made him its first-ever signing back in July. Before signing with Charlotte, Ruiz spent 2016-2020 with Racing de Santander where he was team captain and scored eight goals in 127 appearances.
The MLS debut for Charlotte and Ruiz is still a ways off, but tracking his exploits in Spain is something to keep tabs on in the meantime.
