Sergio Romero - Manchester United - goalkeeper

TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Report

With starting goalkeeper Luis Robles out with a fractured arm suffered in the beginning of October, Inter Miami CF nearly made a big splash before the Secondary Transfer Window closed.

Chris Wheeler of The Daily Mail reports that Miami came close to acquiring Argentine international GK Sergio Romero just ahead of Thursday night's deadline, but couldn't get a deal over the line.

John McCarthy has started the seven games in goal for Miami since Robles' injury. Miami are currently below the playoff line with one match remaining.

Romero, 33, had been Manchester United's backup to David de Gea for a number of years but has fallen down the depth chart following the emergence of Dean Henderson. Romero has appeared in 61 matches for United, with most of his minutes coming in European or cup competitions.

His European career began in 2007 with Dutch side AZ Alkmaar, and he’s also featured extensively for Serie A side Sampdoria.

On the international stage, Romero has been capped 96 times by Argentina. He was La Albiceleste’s starting goalkeeper at the 2010 and 2014 FIFA World Cups.
