TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS:Signing
After a lengthy pursuit, the Houston Dynamo announced on Monday that they have landed Argentine attacker Mateo Bajamich.
"After a lengthy process, we are pleased to welcome Mateo Bajamich to the Houston Dynamo," Dynamo senior vice president and general manager Matt Jordan said in a statement. "Mateo is a talented young player who can create chances and score goals in the final third, while showing a willingness to put in the work defensively. We are confident Mateo will be in an environment with our club and our staff to develop and grow while helping the team be successful."
According to Dynamo broadcaster Glenn Davis, the transfer fee for Bajamich will run at $1.2 million and he has signed a four-year deal with the club. The transfer is pending receipt of his P-1 Visa and International Transfer Certificate.
The 21-year-old winger, who will join the club upon completion of the mandatory quarantine period outlined by local health officials and MLS, joins Houston from Instituto, where he's spent his entire professional career to date. He figures to slide in immediately to help carry the load for a Houston attack that recently saw Alberth Elis depart to Portugal.
Reports linking the Dynamo to Bajamich date back to September, when they were reportedly competing with Sunderland and an unnamed Italian club for his services.
Bajamich has impressed since making his first-team debut for Instituto in 2018, putting up 10 goals in 28 appearances.
