US national team fullback Sergino Dest on Saturday posted an Instagram story that included himself wearing an FC Barcelona training top, amid reports linking the current Ajax man to a possible move to the Spanish giants.
After making 20 Eredivisie appearances for Ajax this season — including 15 starts — the 19-year-old Dest had also been linked to German power Bayern Munich. Last week, Dest's agent told a Dutch outlet there was nothing concrete coming from Barcelona, while Munich's interest was stronger.
Capable of playing either outside back spot, Dest won the Eredivisie's award for the best young player, while helping Ajax finish tied atop the table with AZ Alkmaar, each sitting on 56 points. Neither team was awarded the championship as the Eredivisie cancelled the remainder of its season amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Dest has appeared three times for Gregg Berhalter's US squad, registering an assist.
