Manchester United's Juan Mata to MLS? British journalist says it could happen

Juan Mata - Manchester United - running

Juan Mata has been a reliable player for Manchester United during a relatively fallow period of the Premier League club's history. But as Red Devils manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer continues his rebuilding project, it could be time for the 31-year-old Spaniard to move on.

Could MLS be Mata's next destination? It would certainly make sense, according to Mark Ogden, a senior football writer for ESPN's operations in the United Kingdom.

"I think Mata is a player that would try new experiences," Ogden recently said in a discussion on ESPN.com. "So I don’t think the MLS would be something you could rule out with Juan Mata. I think he’d probably embrace the idea."

Mata was a part of the Spain national teams that won the 2010 World Cup and 2012 European Championships, and also won the 2011-2012 UEFA Champions League with Chelsea.

In a career that started with a year at Barcelona B before moves to Valencia, Chelsea and then Man U, the midfielder is just shy of 600 career club appearances with 133 goals and 152 assists in all competitions.
