John DeBrito, an original member of the New England Revolution, died Wednesday at the age of 51.
The cause of his death is unknown.
DeBrito also briefly played for the then-MetroStars as well as the Kansas City Wizards, Columbus Crew and Dallas Burn. A native of Cape Verde, DeBrito earned six caps with the US men’s national team from 1991-92.
In 2006, DeBrito, who led Southern Connecticut State University to the 1989 Division II national championship, was inducted into the Connecticut Soccer Hall of Fame.
