The 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo is the latest international competition postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic, it was announced Wednesday.
In a joint statement from the International Olympic Committee and the Tokyo 2020 Organizing Committee, the decision was made to reschedule the event “to a date beyond 2020, but not later than summer 2021, to safeguard the health of the athletes, everybody involved in the Olympic Games and the international community.”
The US and Canadian women’s national teams have already qualified, but the Concacaf Men’s Olympic Qualifying Championship, originally scheduled for late March in Guadalajara, has been postponed with no new date announced.
