“The Beckham Effect" to cover David Beckham's MLS journey from LA to Miami

Nearly 13 years before David Beckham-owned expansion club Inter Miami CF played their first Major League Soccer game, the global soccer superstar and cultural icon made his debut as an LA Galaxy player.


To take stock of the journey, “The Beckham Effect,” a Hock Films production, will soon be unveiled. The 45-minute documentary will make its premiere Friday at 9:30 pm ET on FS1, with various air dates leading up to Inter Miami’s home debut March 14 against the Galaxy.

The documentary features exclusive interviews with Landon Donovan, Don Garber, Bruce Arena, Steve Nash, Kyle Martino and more as Beckham’s latest MLS chapter gets underway. From the ups-and-downs of his six-year tenure with LA and its impact on the sports landscape to Beckham’s legacy stateside, plenty of ground is covered.

About Hock Films


The documentary’s executive producer is Jonathan Hock, a ten-time Emmy Award winning producer, director, writer and editor. His first documentary feature "Through the Fire" had its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2005, and his later films "The Lost Son of Havana" (2009), "Off the Rez" (2011) and "Fastball" (2015) also premiered there. 


Hock has directed four documentaries for ESPN's Emmy and Peabody Award winning "30 For 30" series, including "Unguarded," which was named Best Documentary of the year by Sports Illustrated; "The Best That Never Was" (2010); "Survive and Advance" (2013) and "Of Miracles and Men" (2015). Hock's series of documentary shorts, "The Finish Line: Steve Nash," was a finalist for a National Magazine Award.
