Roughly seven months after signing a first-team deal with the New York Red Bulls, outside back Rece Buckmaster has been waived by the club, according to an announcement Saturday.
All told, Buckmaster started six games for the Red Bulls during the 2019 MLS campaign after signing last August. He also featured in their U.S. Open Cup loss against the New England Revolution last June, plus went the full 120 minutes in RBNY’s loss at the Philadelphia Union in last year’s MLS Cup Playoffs knockout round.
Buckmaster, 23, began his professional career with USL Championship side New York Red Bulls II. Before turning pro last year, Buckmaster played collegiately at the University of Indiana and was picked No. 32 overall (second round) in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft by the Red Bulls.
This continues a busy offseason of outgoing fullbacks for New York, with Connor Lade retiring and Michael Murillo and Kemar Lawrence both sold to Belgian side RSC Anderlecht. In terms of those added to the roster, there’s been SuperDraft pick Patrick Seagrist out of Marquette and Mandela Egbo as a transfer from SV Darmstadt 98 in the 2. Bundesliga. They’ve also added a versatile Homegrown Player in John Tolkin.
