UPDATE, Feb. 16, 2:15 pm ET: Minnesota United's play for Emanuel Reynoso might have legs after all, according to a Saturday report from ESPN.com's Jeff Carlisle.

Per Carlisle, the Loons are "closing in" on a deal for the Boca Juniors midfielder with one source relaying that the deal is "95 percent done." The transfer fee would reportedly run at around $5.5 million. The club has been charging hard trying to get the deal finalized, with general manager Mark Watson making multiple trips to Argentina in an effort to see the move through. More information is expected to become available following Boca's match against Central Cordoba on Sunday.

Minnesota United's bid for attacking midfielder Emanuel Reynoso was rejected by Argentine giants Boca Juniors, though that might not be the end of the story, according to a report from TyC Sports in Argentina.

The terms of the original offer were not reported, though Boca could be influenced into selling Reynoso to the Loons for a bigger bid, according to TyC.

Minnesota were first connected with Reynoso in January, though the trail had gone dark a bit after Loons manager Adrian Heath told the St. Paul Pioneer-Press that it was a "wait and see" situation at the beginning of this month.

With the recent addition of Luis Amarilla, Minnesota have plenty of striking options even after moving on from Colombians Darwin Quintero and Angelo Rodriguez, including 2019 breakout performer Mason Toye and newly-signed Aaron Schoenfeld.

They could certainly use reinforcements just behind their leading line, however. Uruguayan Thomas Chacon, signed in the 2019 MLS Secondary Transfer Window, is currently the only obvious No. 10 candidate.

Reynoso has a goal and three assists 14 matches into the current Argentina Superliga campaign. He only four career league goals as a pro, all coming in the Argentine top flight, but hit the net twice over nine appearances on Boca's run to the 2019 Copa Libertadores final.
