TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Signing
The LA Galaxy have signed goalkeeper Eric Lopez to a Homegrown contract, the club announced Wednesday. He was the youngest player to sign a USL contract after inking a deal with LA Galaxy II five seasons ago.
Lopez, 20, started 14 games for Los Dos in 2019 and was named the club's Defender of the Year in 2017. He has made 38 USL appearances during his time with Los Dos. Lopez has also been involved with the US youth national team at various stops throughout the years.
“Eric has continued to progress as a person and a player during his time in our development system,” Galaxy GM Dennis te Kloese said in a club statement. “His success is a leading example of our youth structure providing a pathway to join the first team. After growing as a member of our Academy and LA Galaxy II, we are excited for Eric to represent our senior team and look forward to his contributions.”
Lopez is the third goalie under contract for the Galaxy heading to 2020, behind starter David Bingham and Justin Vom Steeg. He is the fifth signing this offseason for the Galaxy, who have added Sacha Klejstan, Aleksandar Katai, Emiliano Insua and Danilo Acosta.
The club continue to be linked with Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez, though no deal is done yet.
