TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Reports
The New York Red Bulls are said to be tracking one of the rising stars of the English lower divisions, with reports on both sides of the Atlantic claiming that RBNY want Hull City central midfielder Leonardo da Silva Lopes and have had “a seven-figure bid” rejected by the English Championship club within the past seven days.
Lopes, 21, is a tenacious box-to-box center mid who has turned heads since breaking into the lineup at League One club Peterborough United as a teenager, even drawing comparisons to George Best. Born in Portugal, he and his family emigrated to Great Britain during his adolescence and he’s represented his mother country at the youth national team level.
He moved to Wigan in the summer of 2018 via a transfer fee reported to be just under $2 million, but struggled to settle with the Latics and was sold to Hull last summer, signing a three-year contract with the Tigers in the process.
Currently sitting in mid-table in the second division, Hull City are said to be uninterested in selling their prize prospect, though their hand may be forced should more hefty bids be tabled. Lopes has reportedly also drawn attention from Premier League clubs Everton and Norwich.
