UPDATE, 11:30 pm ET, Dec. 11: Orlando City coach Oscar Pareja explained to Colombian radio show El Alargue that the club has interest in German Cano, and there are ongoing dialogues among all involved parties. Pareja didn't delve into further details about the Argentine forward, but there's some momentum as he looks to help the Lions to their first-ever Audi MLS Cup Playoffs appearance.
UPDATE, 2 pm ET, Dec. 6: Independiente Medellin's new sporting director Juan "Cunda" Valencia told reporters on Friday that German Cano has informed the club of his decision to leave and that DIM "respects his decision," with the club releasing a statement acknowledging that "his exceptional sporting performance prompted important economic proposals from several clubs at national and international level, with sums that [Independiente] is not able to match." Brazil's Vasco da Gama is also reputed to be in pursuit of the striker.
TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Report
Orlando City SC are being linked to one of the top performers in the Colombian top flight, with reports out of that country stating that the Lions have submitted a formal transfer offer for Deportivo Independiente Medellin striker German Cano.
Cano, 31, is an Argentine frontrunner who began his senior professional career at Lanus but has spent much of his career abroad, with stints in Mexico and Colombia. He got a brief taste of MLS during his time with Pachuca (pictured above), in the form of a dramatic Concacaf Champions League quarterfinal series vs. the Montreal Impact in 2015.
Over the past year he's been one of the most prolific finishers in the world with a whopping 41 goals across all competitions for Medellin, helping El Rojo Paisa win the 2019 Copa Aguila, the country's domestic cup competition.
Last month Cano told the Superdeportivo de AM radio show that he has offers from Brazil, the United States and the United Arab Emirates, and could also return to Medellin, who will compete in Copa Libertadores in 2020.
