TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Report
Speculation is rife over 2020 MLS expansion club Inter Miami's inaugural roster, and a new report suggests an intriguing player will be the next to join up.
Paul Tenorio reported at The Athletic on Monday that Inter Miami are in negotiations to sign Roger Martinez from Club America. The forward would be a Designated Player for Inter Miami.
Martinez, 25, has featured on four continents to date in his career. The Colombian international, who played at the 2018 World Cup, the 2016 Copa America Centenario in the United States and this year's Copa America, got his start at Argentine grande Racing, with loan stints at fellow Argentine sides Santamarina and Aldosivi, before moving to China in 2016 to play for Jiangsu Suning.
After a short loan stint to Spanish club Villarreal in 2018, Martinez made a permanent move to Club America that year, and has been a regular for Miguel Herrera at the Liga MX giants, winning a Liga MX title and Copa MX title each.
Inter Miami currently have one Designated Player under contract, Argentine midfielder Matias Pellegrini. The club will kick off their inaugural season March 1 at LAFC.
