TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Trade
The Seattle Sounders have acquired the rights to goalkeeper Stefan Cleveland and a second-round MLS SuperDraft selection (No. 35) from the Chicago Fire in exchange for a first-round SuperDraft selection (No. 26), the clubs announced Tuesday.
Cleveland's contract option was declined by the Fire last week. Bryan Meredith, previously the Sounders' backup goalkeeper, was selected by Inter Miami in the 2019 Expansion Draft.
"Following Bryan Meredith’s departure in the Expansion Draft last week, goalkeeper depth became a priority for us this offseason,” Sounders GM & President Garth Lagerwey said in a statement. “Stefan is a young goalkeeper that we look forward to bringing into our current group and working with Tom Dutra once preseason begins."
Cleveland, 25, made five MLS appearances over three seasons with the Fire.
