The 2019 MLS Cup Final is officially a sellout, Seattle Sounders announced Friday. The news came just hours after tickets went on sale to the general public at 10 am PT. Season Members had been offered a presale opportunity on Thursday.
The Sounders said a crowd in excess of 69,000 would be in attendance when they take on Toronto FC on Nov. 10, making it the largest crowd to attend a soccer match in the history of Seattle. The previous record for the Sounders came when 67,385 fans watched them take on Cascadia rivals Portland Timbers in August 2013. It will also be the second-largest MLS Cup attendance ever, following on from the 73,019 who were on hand at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta last year to watch the home team beat the Portland Timbers.
“As evidenced by today’s near-immediate sellout, our fans are the most passionate and dedicated in the league,” said Sounders FC Owner Adrian Hanauer said in the team release. “We are thrilled to be playing a match of this magnitude in front of a historic home crowd of more than 69,000. This club has always benefited from the intensity and fervor that our fans bring to CenturyLink Field and next Sunday is a chance to add a historic new chapter to our homefield advantage.”
The match marks the first time the Sounders have been the home team at MLS Cup, although CenturyLink Field was the venue for the 2009 MLS Cup when it was played on neutral ground. It will also be the third time in four years that Seattle and Toronto have gone head-to-head in the MLS showpiece. Seattle won on penalty kicks after a goalless tie in 2016 before Toronto got revenge, 2-0, 12 months later.
