Saturday was not a good day for FC Dallas, as they bowed out in the Audi 2019 MLS Cup Playoffs thanks to a 4-3 loss at the Seattle Sounders. But it wasn't all bad news for the Texas club.
FCD's affiliate, North Texas SC, took home the inaugural USL League One title on Saturday night — beating Greenville Triumph SC 1-0. 20-year-old midfielder Arturo Rodriguez scored the game's lone goal in the 60th minute. The Texas native joined the FCD academy in 2017 and had a total of eight goals and 10 assists this season.
Four first-team players started the match for head coach Eric Quill, with 18-year-old Thomas Roberts in the midfield and Callum Montgomery and Bryan Reynolds along the backline. Kyle Zobeck started in goal. One notable absence was Ricardo Pepi, as the 16-year-old left the team to join up with the US Under-17's ahead of the World Cup later this month. Pepi scored both goals in NTXSC's semifinal win.
Led by Quill, NTXSC easily accrued the most points in USL League One in the league's first season. 20-year-old Haitian Ronaldo Damus led the league with 16 goals, while academy players Brecc Evans and Jorge Almaguer played major roles with the club.
