Most kids in middle school play in front of their parents, maybe a few friends who swing by the match. Not if you’re part of the Inter Miami CF Academy.
The club’s U-13 and U-14 teams kicked off their US Soccer Development Academy season this past Saturday for a double-header against Jacksonville Armada FC. They comfortably won the matches by a combined 10-0 scoreline — all before supporter group members from The Siege, Vice City 1896 and Southern Legion.
Just as they will when their first team kicks off next year, those fans brought banners and drums, while singing and chanting their lungs out. All that propelled Diego Mello and Elijah Hicks to bag a brace for the U-13s and U-14s, respectively.
Miami’s academy is in its first season, with the first team set to begin MLS play in 2020.
