One megastar out, one megastar in?
Hours after D.C. United confirmed Wayne Rooney will depart the club following the conclusion of the 2019 season, the rumor mill sparked up a couple huge names, including Arsenal and Germany star Mesut Ozil.
According to Steven Goff of the Washington Post, Ozil's representatives will meet with D.C. next week. ESPN's Taylor Twellman adds the conversation started between the two parties more than a year ago.
Ozil, 30, has enjoyed a hugely successful career, with stops at Werder Bremen, Real Madrid and, currently, Arsenal. With the Gunners he 43 goals and 74 assists in 231 appearances. With Madrid, he had 27 goals and 80 assists in 159 appearances.
The playmaking No. 10 is one of the decade's premier chance creators and assist makers.
With the German national team, Ozil has made 92 appearances and was a key member of the 2014 World Cup-winning side.
