TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Report
UPDATE, 8/2/19: A day after it looked like Pavon could be headed to France, new reports out of Argentina indicate that his move to LA is back on and that the deal between Boca and the Galaxy will be sealed on Friday. Argentine outlet Doble Amarilla reported that the Galaxy will pay $2 million to loan Pavon for the rest of 2019, with an option to purchase him outright for $25 million.
TNT Sports and CNN Radio reporter Hernan Castillo also reported on Thursday night that the deal would be done on Friday:
UPDATES, 8/1/19: Rumors of Boca Juniors winger Cristian Pavon heading to the LA Galaxy have taken a sharp turn, as French outlet L'Equipe is reporting that the in-demand Argentine is heading to Ligue 1 club Bordeaux. The deal is reportedly a two-year loan with the option to buy.
Bordeuax finished 14th out of 20 teams in the Ligue 1 standings a season ago. They've since been busy rebuilding their squad.
That report follows an update on the situation from the Los Angeles Times' Kevin Baxter on Wednesday night with details of a potential move, as well as a dose of skepticism:
Have the Galaxy moved on from Boca Juniors winger Cristian Pavon and focused their attention elsewhere in the closing days of the Secondary Transfer Window?
According to ESPN Argentina, Boca Juniors rejected an $16 million offer from the Galaxy for Pavon, though MLS sources told ESPN that fee is inaccurate.
An offer was submitted over the weekend, according to ESPN Argentina's Diego Monroig, but Boca reportedly dubbed it “insufficient.”
The 23-year-old was held out of training Tuesday and left off the Boca squad facing Athletico Paranaense in the quarterfinals of the Copa Libertadores Wednesday.
Galaxy manager Guillermo Barros Schelotto, himself a former Boca player and coach, had previously stated the deadline for their Pavon pursuit was the end of last week and they had other targets lined up. Reportedly one of those targets is Independiente forward Martin Benitez.
The 25-year-old former Argentine youth international has scored 15 goals in 114 appearances with Independiente since coming up through the club’s youth ranks in 2011.
