Fresh off emotional rivalry wins, the Portland Timbers host the LA Galaxy in the finale of Week 21 of the regular season Saturday night at Providence Park.
The Timbers (8-8-4) rode a Brian Fernandez brace to defeat the Seattle Sounders in a Cascadia Cup clash Sunday at CenturyLink Field. Fernandez scored the lone goal of the first half and responded one minute after Raul Ruidiaz struck for the 50th-minute equalizer as the Timbers extended an unbeaten streak to five games and moved to within two points of the playoff line in the West.
The Galaxy (12-8-1) erased an early deficit to defeat LAFC, 3-2, and remain unbeaten in El Trafico matches last Friday at Dignity Health Sports Complex. Zlatan Ibrahimovic answered Carlos Vela's opening goal with three of his own before Vela added a second in second-half stoppage time.
