TRANSFER TRACKER: Report
Inter Miami CF, set to enter MLS as an expansion team in 2020, are closing in on their first signing, according to a report from Argentine newspaper El Dia.
They explain that 19-year-old winger Matias Pellegrini is set to undergo a medical with Miami for a deal that could approach $10 million total. Pellegrini would return to Argentine first-division club Estudiantes before joining for Miami's inaugural campaign.
Pellegrini recently concluded his first season with Estudiantes, where he featured in 17 games, scoring three times and assisting once. Two of those appearances came in Copa Libertadores play.
During his youth career, Pellegrini competed in the Generation adidas Cup. He predominantly plays on the left, with reports of the move originally surfacing in late June. Pellegrini has been called up by the U-17 and U-20 Argentina national teams.
Paul McDonough is currently the sporting director of Inter Miami, with a penchant for looking to South America when building expansion team rosters. He undertook similar projects with Atlanta United and Orlando City as they entered MLS.
