It looked like Wayne Rooney was heading for an early shower in D.C. United's Fourth of July clash against FC Dallas at Toyota Stadium, but the referee had a change of heart after Video Review.
Rooney tackled FC Dallas winger Michael Barrios during the first half with a challenge from behind which saw the Englishman lunge into the air and catch Barrios on the upper leg. Referee Nima Saghafi initially showed Rooney a red card, and then opted to look at the play on Video Review. After consulting the monitor, Saghafi rescinded the red card and instead opted to punish the foul with a yellow card.
At the time of the foul, FC Dallas held a 1-0 lead, thanks to an early goal from Santiago Mosquera.
It got worse for the visitors, however, as not only did Dominique Badji get a goal to extend FC Dallas' lead, but substitute Luciano Acosta was sent off after a Video Review for stepping on Paxton Pomykal as both players went for the ball.
