Walter Sabatini has been appointed sporting coordinator of the Montreal Impact and Serie A side Bologna FC, the clubs — both owned by Joey Saputo — announced Monday. The 64-year-old will be responsible for the supervision and coordination of the two clubs' football operations.
Sabatini has extensive experience at running clubs, as he has served as director of football at Lazio, Palermo, Roma and Inter Milan. At Roma, he was awarded best director of football in Serie A for the 2013-14 season.
Over the years, Sabatini has been responsible for his clubs signing the likes of Aleksandar Kolarov, Fernando Muslera, Stephan Lichtsteiner, Javier Pastore, Erik Lamela, Marquinhos, Radja Nainggolan and many others.
The Impact have enjoyed a fine start despite a road-heavy start to the campaign and absence of Ignacio Piatti for much of the season, sitting second place in the Eastern Conference.
