Austin FC have selected the roster of their first academy team, an Under-14 side set to kick off play in September, the club announced Wednesday.
The club scoured the Austin metro area for local talent, identifying 52 players for a camp this winter. Austin FC selected a squad of 19 players from the area's brightest young talent.
“Austin is very rich in talented youth soccer players,” head coach Junro Narita said in a club statement. “This group represents a genuine integration of players with diverse backgrounds, skill sets and personalities that reflect this vibrant community.”
The U-14 side is the club's first team, will compete in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy against other MLS academies as well as other elite clubs in the country.
“We’re proud of all of the players who participated, and we’re looking forward to coaching our team this fall,” academy director Tyson Wahl said. “There is tremendous potential and a strong sense of teamwork within our first-ever group. We look forward to the journey with them as we establish a strong culture of development for players and families who enter the Austin FC Academy.”
