Landon Donovan, Jermaine Jones named to US arena soccer national team

Jermaine Jones - Landon Donovan - 2014 MLS Cup

Turns out Landon Donovan and Jermaine Jones aren't done donning the Stars and Stripes just yet.

The two former MLS and US national team stars have recently been trying their trade in the Major Arena Soccer League in Southern California, with Donovan suiting up for the San Diego Sockers and Jones joining the Ontario Fury.

Now both will be a part of the United States national arena soccer team for a friendly against Mexico to be played on May 31 at the Fury's home arena, according to a release from the club.

That may not be where it ends for Donovan, who is tied for the all-time lead with 57 US men's national team goals and second with 157 appearances, or for Jones, who appeared 69 times for the US.

The USNAST compete in the third ever Minifootball World Cup this October in Australia, a global championship run by the World Minifootball Federation. The US won the inaugural competition in 2015, but then were knocked out in 2017 by their southern rivals in the round of 16.
