The LA Galaxy are back to vintage winning form, but that doesn't mean general manager Dennis te Kloese is fully satisfied with the roster he's supplied head coach Guillermo Barros Schelotto.
Te Kloese, who is less than half-a-year into his job, has added the likes of Diego Polenta, Joe Corona, Uriel Antuna and Giancarlo Gonzalez as well as overseeing the progression of a few players from the academy this season. And he thinks the club could use another option in attack.
With Designated Player winger Romain Alessandrini out injured until September, the Galaxy are looking to acquire a forward ahead of Tuesday's Primary Transfer Window deadline.
“We have a few candidates, we’re trying," Te Kloese told MLSsoccer.com on Thursday, moments before the club made their first of two GAM-for-TAM trades. "With the time pressure on it, and everything going on, we’ll try to finalize something — obviously we need it by May 7. We have a few candidates.”
The Galaxy have been linked with Argentinean winger Favio Alvarez, though it's not an easy situation to acquire reinforcements from abroad in May.
The European seasons are just getting toward the finish line, wrapping up later this month, while the Liga MX Apertura playoffs are just starting. The European transfer window won't open officially until June 9.
“The thing is with the transfer window with where clubs stand abroad, it’s obviously a little bit of a challenge for when they’re able to release their players, replace their players," Te Kloese admitted. "To find the fine balance between MLS and the other countries is sometimes a little bit of a challenge, but we’ll work through it.”
If the Galaxy are unable to complete a signing before Tuesday, they'll have to wait until July 7 to add to their roster.
