United acquired defender Pedroso off of waivers after trading their natural first-round pick in the 2020 MLS SuperDraft to FC Dallas in exchange for $100,000 in General Allocation Money.
“We’re happy to add Marquinhos to our roster and provide some important depth at outside back,” Dave Kasper, D.C. United GM and VP of soccer operations, said in a statement. “He has a lot of professional experience in various leagues worldwide and we’re looking forward to integrating him into the team.”

With Joseph Mora and Chris McCann dealing with injuries, D.C. United's left back depth has thinned completely, so much so that Paul Arriola has taken to playing wingback in recent weeks.
Help may be on the way.
According to Steven Goff of the Washington Post, D.C. have acquired left back Maquinhos Pedroso from FC Dallas for a 2020 first-round SuperDraft pick. Goff adds that Dallas will pay Pedroso's salary.
Pedroso, 25, was signed by Dallas in July of last season and became a regular first team member with 13 starts. This season, however, he has made just one start.
The Brazilian began his career at Figueirense, then in the Brazilian top flight, in 2012, and featured on loan at fellow Brazilian sides Guarani (2013) and Gremio (2014). He also had stints at Gaziantepspor in Turkey and Ferencvaros in Hungary prior to joining Dallas.
As for the Texas club, the move likely elevates 2019 SuperDraft first-round pick John Nelson up the depth chart behind starter Ryan Hollingshead. Nelson has made three substitute appearances this season.
