Nashville SC will begin play in what the club is describing as the “largest soccer specific stadium in the U.S.” for the start of the 2022 Major League Soccer season, pushed back from the original mid-2021 projection.
In an open letter to the club’s fans, Nashville SC CEO Ian Ayre explained the decision as being more beneficial for both the club and its fans.
“Moving into a new facility in the middle of the 2021 season and losing home field advantage could negatively affect our team on the field, and equally we believe this decision avoids disruption to our ticket holders midseason,” he said. “Overall this will allow more adequate time for construction, testing and commissioning of our new home.”
Nashville SC will play at Nissan Stadium, home of the NFL's Tennessee Titans, until the stadium is complete. Ayre said the design will work inside out “so that it is first and foremost fit for purpose.”
“Our team has taken the original outline ideas and concepts and worked with architects and our construction partner to develop the best possible soccer specific stadium for our fans,” he said. “We are now approaching a highly functional design that all of Nashville can be proud of.”
To accommodate a growing staff, Ayre said the club’s offices will move next month and will be adjacent to the Fairgrounds, within walking distance of the new stadium site. He also said a city-wide search is underway for a permanent training facility site and academy facilities.
