Real Salt Lake and Sporting Kansas City got a special treat as they closed out the 2020 regular season on Decision Day presented by AT&T with full dusting of snow covering the field at Rio Tinto Stadium at kickoff.
With a temperature of 31 degrees in Sandy, Utah, light snow continued to fall throughout the game as the teams battled away with an orange ball. The snow is not a completely unfamiliar sight to Real Salt Lake, however, with this the third time in four seasons that they have hosted a snow game. While on the previous two occasions RSL got the win, on Sunday it was the visiting SKC that came out on top with the help of an opening goal that owed much to the conditions.
It is the Colorado Rapids who the unquestionable kings of the snow game in MLS, however, having hosted more than any other team in league history. Snow hasn't proven to be a particularly strong factor one way or another for Colorado, though. They've posted a 3W-2L-1D record in the six games they've hosted so far.
